The rocket that will take Amazonia 1 - the first Earth observation satellite fully designed, integrated, tested and operated by Brazil will be launched at the beginning of dawn on Sunday (28). The launch, scheduled to take place at 1h54 (Brasília time), will be broadcast live by Agência Brasil and TV Brasil. Amazonia 1 will be put into orbit by the PSLV-C51 mission, from the Indian space agency Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). With six kilometers of wires and 14,000 electrical connections, the satellite is part of the Amazonia 1 Mission, which aims to provide remote sensing data to observe and monitor deforestation, especially in the Amazon region, in addition to monitoring agriculture in the country. “The Amazonia 1 satellite, which is for optical remote sensing, will give Brazil autonomy to better monitor its different biomes, its seas and all the targets of interest that we have, because it is a satellite that will be under complete control of Brazil”, he explains the president of the Brazilian Space Agency, Carlos Moura, who accompanies a delegation in India. “The moment of such a launch is the culmination of efforts that last for many years, sometimes tens of years. For some professionals, it is the career challenge. Amazonia 1 crowns this effort of Brazil that comes from 1979, 1980, with the Brazilian Space Mission, of the country being able to develop its own optical remote sensing satellite ”, said Carlos Moura. Amazonia 1 will generate images of the planet every 5 days. On demand, it will be able to provide data from a specific point in 2 days - which, according to the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), will help in the inspection of areas that are being deforested, as well as in the capture of images where there is a greater occurrence of clouds . According to the institute, the new satellite will also make it possible to monitor the coastal region, water reservoirs and forests (natural and cultivated). There is also the possibility of using it for observations of possible environmental disasters.
